Are There Open Water Course In Cozumel?
After your Discover Scuba Diving experience, the PADI Open Water Course should be your next step. This course provides a solid foundation in diving skills that will enable you to dive independently in ocean environments with a buddy – and is recognized worldwide. Comprised of knowledge development and water skill training activities such as confined water sessions for basic diving skills training, four open water dives and a final exam; generally this course takes three days; however depending on your location or schedule it could take shorter or longer.
Students attending classroom and confined water sessions learn the fundamentals of dive equipment use, dive theory and buoyancy management, how to safely prepare and dive, as well as be expected to demonstrate mastery of various diving skills including mask clearing, breath holding underwater and BCD inflation – although these don’t tend to be hard. Don’t feel embarrassed to speak up if you need assistance; remember it takes practice for these skills just like walking!
After successfully completing their classroom and confined water sessions, students move onto Cozumel where they will put their newly gained diving skills to use in open waters of Cozumel’s Caribbean sea and discover its wonders – such as our unique reef system!
No matter the ocean conditions on any given day, students will still be able to practice the diving techniques learned during their confined water sessions in open water environments – helping build confidence and independence so they can enjoy our beautiful reefs all year long!
These open water dives will enable students to hone their confined water skills as well as explore unfamiliar conditions, including increased air consumption (due to reduced atmospheric pressure), decreased no-stop times, nitrogen narcosis and navigation. Two dives will be conducted from shore with the final one taking place aboard a boat.
To save time during their vacation, those looking to reduce classroom time can take advantage of PADI eLearning to complete the classroom portion of an Open Water Course before arriving on Cozumel. This option offers access to PADI manual and certification fees, saving both time and money during your course!
